| LTRC History |
| |
|
The LTRC was formed to collect lung tissues and medical data from patients with lung diseases. The primary patient groups being studied are: those who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or
Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). The majority of ILD patients have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF/UIP). We are also collecting tissues and medical data from patients with other similar lung diseases as
well as control tissues and data from patients who are going in to surgical units for exploratory biopsies.

| |
|
The medical data being collected will come from a CT scan of the patient’s lungs and questionnaire data that are collected around the time of the patient’s surgery. The tissue and the medical
information are processed in a standardized way. To review the tissue collection procedures click on the appropriate Specimen Type: Aliquot,
Block, Blood. To review the CT scanning procedures click here; and to
review the data collection forms that are used in this study, click here.

The Data Coordinating Center staff are responsible for assembling the data and making it available to researchers in the United States so that they can perform analyses on the tissues, CT scans, and/or the
medical data. To review the procedures for requesting tissues, specimens, and data click here.

It is also possible to tabulate information about the types of tissues that have been collected and to perform limited statistical analyses on these data. As part of the WEB-based data analysis system,
researchers can also look at slides of selected subsets of tissues and CT scans. To perform a statistical analysis, review slides of a selected subset of tissues, and/or review a limited amount of data from
the CT scan click here. Data Coordinating Center staff are available to assist investigators with statistical analyses and/or power analyses in preparation for a
submission of a concept sheet to a Protocol Review Committee for subsequent release of data. This information can be found in the Data Request section of the Research page (click here).
