LTRC Tissues - Aliquot Specimen

Acquisition of Fixed and Frozen Tissue Specimens

All fixed and frozen tissues that are obtained prospectively by biopsy, transplantation, or other tissue resection and that are approved for research study should be prepared according to the instructions given in the LTRC Manual of Operations (MOO).

Depending on the amount of tissue available, it will be processed in the priority order listed above until no more tissue is available. It is understood that if the tissue runs out before one of the items is filled, then the lower priority items will not be obtained for that specimen; no additional tissue will be requested for the LTRC, other than that which is necessary for the medical treatment of the patient.

All Clinical Centers will ensure that tissue technicians are notified when an LTRC patient’s biopsy/VATS/transplant is taking place.  Tissue technicians will be present when the tissue sample is removed from the patient.  The tissue technician will work with the surgical/pathology staff to determine the tissue that won’t be needed for routine hospital reviews and tests and will begin to process that tissue as soon as possible.  The LTRC investigators have set as a goal that the ischemic period for LTRC tissue will be no longer than 15 minutes for VATS and biopsy specimens and 30 minutes for transplant tissue.
