| THE GENE EXPRESSION DATA IS AVAILABLE! |
|
Gene expression data will be available to request for selected subjects from the LTRC study starting June 2011. All the gene assays were performed at the University of Pittsburgh. The first batch of microarray data were normalized and analyzed at the Data Coordinating Center. The COPD and ILD disease group was compared to the Control group for 40,000 probes using t-test. The frequencies of p-values from all probes comparison were presented in the plot below.

| January 18, 2011 |
| The first LTRC steering committee meeting after the renewal will take place on February 14, 2011 in Washington, DC. The main issue will be discussed at the meeting is protocol revision. We also welcome Temple University to come on board as the new clinical center for LTRC. Site and user certifications are under way. Temple University will soon start recruiting study subjects. |

| The LTRC study was successfully renewed for another four years. The new contract starts January 3, 2011. The Data Coordinating Center (DCC) is currently working with the NHLBI to schedule the first Steering Committee meeting. |

| March 1, 2010 |
| LTRC is currently applying for the renewal of the study, which is due to start in September 2010. As of March 1, 2010, the LTRC has received a total of 123 concept sheet applications. One hundred and one concept sheets were approved by the NHLBI and specimens were distributed for research. Nine publications and many more presentations have resulted so far. The study continues to enroll patients at all the clinical centers. |

| Dr. Cristina Villena Portella, Unidad de Investigación, from the Hospital Universitario Son Dureta in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, visited the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) on Friday, March 7, 2008. Dr. Villena Portella was on a fact finding trip to assist in starting up a similar project for the country of Spain. In addition to visiting Clinical Trials and Surveys Corporation (DCC), she also visited the Tissue Core Lab with Dr. Carlyne Cool. |

| The LTRC began recruitment in February 2005. The LTRC is currently at approximately 115% of the goal of 1,600 subjects with a total of 1844 enrolled as of September 30, 2008. Tissues have been collected from 1475 patients. Tissues from those subjects have included lung explants, lung lobectomies, wedge resections, lung biopsies and LVRS. We are currently in negotiation to increase the sample size. |
